Synopsis

Jo Yeo Jung plays a pampered, clueless woman in the award-winning film Parasite, but—in an almost complete reversal—her character in the drama Woman of 9.9 Billion is poor and desperate.

Jung’s life is so awful she is ready to die, but everything changes when she unexpectedly finds 9.9 billion won ( about $8.3 million). The money is so tempting, she ignores the dangers associated with taking it. She struggles to look for happiness in her life. Meanwhile, Kang Tae Woo (Kim Kang Woo) is an ex-detective. He attempts to reveal the truth behind the death of his younger sibling.

With its precise cinematography, and some unexpected character development, Woman of 9.9 Billion is likely to be a ratings winner. Nielsen Korea rated Woman of 9.9 Billion as the most-watched drama of its opening night, because it scored average nationwide ratings of 7.2 and 8.7 percent.

In an interview with The Korea Herald, Jo said she chose the drama because she wanted to play a different role from the housewife in Parasite, saying she was attracted to the character “because she was quite calm and strong despite the environment she had to face.”
