Golden Globe Winner Parasite

“Parasite” has become the first Korean movie to receive an award at the Golden Globes!

The 77th Golden Globe Awards took place in Los Angeles, United States on January 6 2020, and “Parasite” was announced as the winner of the Best Foreign Language Film.

Other films that were nominated for the category were Lulu Wang’s “The Farewell” (United States), Ladj Ly’s “Les Misérables” (France), Pedro Almodovar’s “Pain and Glory” (Spain) and Céline Sciamma’s “Portrait of a Lady on Fire” (France).

On stage, director Bong Joon Ho shared, “You can enjoy many more films if you overcome the one-inch-tall barrier of subtitles. It was an honor to be nominated along with international film directors. I think we use only one language: cinema.”

Also present at the ceremony were the film’s actors Song Kang Ho, Jo Yeo Jeong, and Lee Jung Eun, as well as CEO Kwak Shin Ae of the production company Barunson E&A and screenwriter Han Jin Won who co-wrote the script.

Considering the fact that “Parasite” was the first Korean film to be nominated for an award at the Golden Globe Awards, scoring a win becomes an even greater achievement in Korean film history. “Parasite” is also the fourth Asian film to win a Golden Globe.

The film was also nominated for Best Director (Motion Picture) and Best Screenplay (Motion Picture). The Best Director award ultimately went to Sam Mendes of “1917,” while Best Screenplay was received by Quentin Tarantino’s “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.”

“Parasite” is currently on the shortlist of nominees for International Feature Film in the 92nd Academy Awards, and the film’s original soundtrack “A Glass of Soju,” sung by actor Choi Woo Shik, also made the shortlist for Music (Original Song).
